Coronal Hole Stream / Geomagnetic Storm Watch Issued for 31 Dec 2016 - 01 Jan 2017
LAST AURORAS OF 2016? NOAA forecasters estimate a 55% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on Dec.31st when a stream of solar wind is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field with wind speeds topping 600 km/s.
Artic sky watchers should be alert for auroras.
Coronal Hole Stream / Geomagnetic Storm Watch
The anticipated coronal hole stream is now moving past Earth with a solar wind speed currently near 500 km/s. Enhanced geomagnetic activity will be possible in the hours ahead. High latitutde sky watchers should be alert for visible aurora once dark outside.
G1 (MINOR) GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH BEGINNING ON 31 DEC
A G1 (Minor) Geomagnetic Storm Watch has been issued for 31 Dec 2016 - 01 Jan 2017 (UTC Day) due to the anticipated arrival of an isolated, positive-polarity CH HSS.
Solar Wind Speed: 479 km/sec
Solar Wind Magnetic Fields: Bt 16 nT, Bz -5 nT
