Earth moves into a stream of fast-moving solar wind up to 650 km/s
NOAA forecasters estimate a 65% chance of G1-class geomagnetic storms on Jan. 5th as Earth moves into a stream of fast-moving solar wind. The source of the wind is a large hole in the sun's atmosphere.
Enhanced geomagnetic activity (Kp4) continues at higher latitudes due to a high speed solar wind stream.
An isolated period of minor (G1) storming will remain possible during the next 24 hours while the stream is geoeffective.
Sky watchers at higher latitudes should be alert for visible aurora
