Moderate (G2) Storm Watch in Effect, Auroral Displays

Minor (G1) geomagnetic storm conditions observed within the past few hours. A high speed solar wind stream above 700 km/s is flowing from a geoeffective coronal hole and is causing the disturbance.

A moderate (G2) storm watch is also in effect. Visible aurora will be possible at higher latitudes once dark outside.

G1 (Minor) storm warning conditions remain favorable for 22 March, therefore the G1 Warning has been extended through 22/2100 UTC (22/1700 ET). Elevated solar wind speeds associated with a coronal hole high speed stream (CH HSS) continue at speeds exceeding 700 km/s.

The solar wind currently blowing around Earth has quickened to 700+ km/s. This means auroras are likely around the Arctic Circle after local nightfall. High-latitude air travelers are already seeing Northern Lights just by looking out of north-facing windows in their planes.
