Sunspot Genesis - G2 (Moderate) Geomagnetic Storm Levels Observed

A large sunspot is growing in the sun's northern hemisphere. Only 24 hours ago it didn't exist, now the active region sprawls across more than 70,000 km of solar "terrain" and contains at least two dark cores as large as Earth.

New sunspot 2644 just produced a minor C-class solar flare.

High Speed Solar Wind Update

As expected, a high speed solar wind stream containing a sector of negative Bz has reached Earth. Geomagnetic storming is being observed at higher latitudes and this could continue over the next few days. Sky watchers should be alert for visible aurora while it is still dark outside.
