G1-Class Geomagnetic Storms are Circling Earth's Poles
UPDATE: 1 (MINOR) GEOMAGNETIC STORM WARNING EXTENDED
published: Friday, March 31, 2017 15:46 UTC
A G1 (Minor) geomagnetic storm warning has been extended until 0300 UTC on 01 April due to continued coronal hole influence. http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/
SOLAR WIND CONTINUES TO BLOW: Minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are circling Earth's poles as our planet spends its 5th day inside a fast-moving stream of solar wind. Arctic and Antarctic sky watchers should remain alert for auroras after local nightfall.
G1 (MINOR) STORM WARNING ISSUED/G1 LEVELS OBSERVED
published: Friday, March 31, 2017 11:19 UTC
A G1 (Minor) storm warning has been issued through 31/0200 EDT (31/0600 UTC). Solar wind speeds have become elevated due to a coronal hole high speed stream (CH HSS), triggering a geomagnetic response. G1 levels were observed at 31/0559 EDT (31/0859 UTC).
Solar Wind Speed: 709 km/sec Solar Wind Magnetic Fields: Bt 5 nT, Bz -5 nT http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/
Minor (G1) geomagnetic storming is again observed at higher latitudes thanks to a persistent high speed solar wind stream. Enhanced geomagnetic activity will remain possible over the next several days when coronal hole #74 faces Earth and possibly delivers another stream of particles towards our planet.
