Halo CME launched towards Earth could Deliver a Glancing Blow to Earth's Magnetic Field on May 2
On Tuesday, May 23rd, the orbiting Solar and Heliospheric Observatory observed a CME leaving the sun.
NOAA analysts say the plasma-filled cloud could deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field midday on May 26th, causing geomagnetic unrest and polar auroras.
Analysis of the partial HALO CME, visible off the West limb in coronagraph imagery, indicated the CME will likely just clip the Earth with an arrival near midday on 26 May.
